Sorry, it has been way too long since I have written... Our halls have "fresh" work up and it looks like spring! Kindergarten "Rain" Self Portraits, 1st grade Keith Haring Symbolic Figures, 2nd grade Georgia O'Keefe Watercolor/glue Flowers and F. Hundertwasser Imaginative Landscapes, 3rd grade AMAZING Raymond Saa-inspired Mixed Media Collages, 4th grade Bird-inspired Clay Vessels, and soon, 5th grade Romero Britto-inspired Paintings. Many of these projects are now in the online galleries as well - more to come. Your artists have been working hard! Exciting news! Please join us THIS COMING WEEKEND for the *NEW* HCPS Fine Arts Festival at Glen Allen High School. I will be there first thing on Saturday morning and last thing on Sunday afternoon. Please see the above invitation for hours and location. Students whose work will be exhibited will be receiving a special invitation Tuesday. I hope everyone has a wonderful spring break! Paint a picture with watercolors( they travel easily), create a marker landscape and then let an April shower rain on it a bit, take a photograph of the same thing using different view points, or keep a visual journal of your trip!
As we look toward spring, we are excited for a new HCPS Fine Arts Festival in May. This festival will include art and music from all over the county. It will be held May 3rd and 4th at Glen Allen High School. This event replaces our annual March mall show as well as the Short Pump Town Center May show. The Fine Arts Festival will be an amazing opportunity to showcase all of the wonderful work Henrico County art students are creating. On Thursday's morning show Taylor P. and friends shared some artwork and information about a local artist and architect - her grandfather! Mr. P. says he "loves art because he feels like he can let out all of his emotions into his artwork." He has 3 children and 6 grandchildren. Mr. P. likes to work with all mediums including oil paint and lithography (printing). His advice to children is: "to always work hard and try your best." Thank you Mr. P, Taylor, Kristin, and Bella! (April Fools) Sorry, I missed yesterday so we will act like it is the last day of March... Thank you Jack, Yumo, and Maillie for "wrapping up" Youth Art Month for me on the morning announcements. Nuckols Foxes celebrated the importance of art all month long in many wonderful ways. Thank you parents for helping to instill within your students a love of creativity, risk, hard work, craftsmanship. problem solving, and unique expression, along with all the many other skills which art gives us. (A side note...a group of NF teachers had fun creating cool clay projects in the art studio and then made a visit to All Fired Up to glaze! Stay tuned for the results!) |
