The Back to School Art Studio News is hot off the press!
Students may have brought it home today or may bring it home tomorrow. A copy of the news can also be found under the "Art Studio News" link to the left. All future news will be found on this site so please check back often. We had a fabulous first week and are ready to create! I walked into the art studio this morning and for some reason this poster on the wall really "spoke" to me today. Isn't it so true?! Creativity takes risk. Risk that you may make a "mistake" and not be "right" the first time. Risking that others will not see the value in your unique mark. Children have a remarkable amount of courage daily. What are you doing today to "put yourself out there?" Please consider giving your student artist art supplies as holiday presents! Allowing students to have a little corner for creating is so important for our developing visual brains.
A sketchbook, colored pencils, watercolors, and oil pastels are some good basic supplies. Take advantage of fabulous weekly coupons: Hobby Lobby - http://hobbylobby.com/weekly/weekly.cfm Michaels - http://weeklyad.michaels.com/ Art classes also make special gifts and allow for additional creative experiences. Check out the "Art News" link for a list of local opportunities. Please let me know if you have any questions! An excerpt from Lesson Planet article. Daniel Pink's book has been around for awhile but always a good reminder of the importance of creativity in today's world.
"In his book, A Whole New Mind, author Daniel H. Pink says "The future belongs to...creators and empathizers, pattern recognizers and meaning-makers. These people...will now reap society's richest rewards and share its greatest joys." He is trying to encourage a new way to think about preparing our students for the new globalized economy that they will enter upon graduation. Pink's theory is that because so many companies, in so many countries, can all make the same products for pennies, the only way to stand out is through creativity; creative marketing, creative packaging, creative product design. Is art for everybody? Yes, because if our students are going to be marketable when they get out of school, they are probably going to have to be somewhat creative. Art fosters creativity." |
